Festival at Shinkou-ji TempleThursday, August 12 The road leading to the shrine is lined with stalls selling lanterns, flowers, takoyaki, shaved ice, beer and other goodies. There have been a senryu comic haiku contest and other events. This is a celebration for the Buddist diety (bodhisattva) Kannon who protects us from the three poisons of "greed, anger and foolishness." |

River Ikada-KudariSunday, August 22 Teams of men race down the Chikuma river in boats specially decked-out for the occasion. This festival celebrates the long tradition of boating in the area. |

End CharityFriday, December 31 inside Sakaki Shrine Every year at the Sakaki shrine we sell daruma and set up stands selling soba, takoyaki, cotton candy and other treats. The profits are put to public use. Recently we have been able to help with a number of projects to help nuture local youth. |
